At Hol Chan Marine Reserve there is a lot of marine life to discover, from fish and corals to dolphins and manatees. Within the reserve is also three species of sea turtles: the Hawksbill turtle, Loggerhead turtle, and Green turtle.
We’re fortunate here in Belize to provide a home to these sea turtles given their endangered status. Sea turtles face a variety of hazards that are threatening their survival, including fishing nets, coastal development, pollution, and more.
At Hol Chan Marine Reserve, marine life is given a safe and protected environment, meaning you get to witness sea turtles in their natural habitat when you go snorkeling! And given that they are endangered, there’s no time like the present to see them for yourself. To learn more about going to Hol Chan, please click here.
And of course, next time you’re considering single-use plastic or lathering up your sunscreen, we encourage you to seek ocean-friendly options to help out our sea turtles!
