Just in time for Earth Day, the Wildlife Conservation Society of Belize has announced that they are significantly expanding protected ocean areas, also known as “fishery replenishment marine areas.” After bans on oil drilling last year changed the Belize Barrier Reef’s label from “threatened” by UNESCO, we are happy to see further action taken to protect our waters.
The changes won’t effect a visitor’s ability to go fishing, rather it just safeguards our marine life so we can continue fishing and seeing biodiversity in our waters.
