We are so excited by this week’s news about our beloved barrier reef!
For many years the Belize Barrier Reef, the second largest reef in the world and UNESCO site, has been considered in danger. Partly this is due to construction and industrial activities that threaten the ecosystems. Not only is the reef beautiful for snorkeling and diving while visiting, but it is a major source of Belize’s economy.
Thankfully, it has just been announced that the reef is no longer under threat thanks to the recent ban on oil drilling, safeguarding the marine life we rely on. After all, a loss as big as the entire reef would not just effect Belize, but everyone. We’re thankful it’ll be around for many more years of enjoyment.
